The drama continued for several hours and Aazad finally

The drama continued for several hours and Aazad finally agreed around 3. Those who commit violence want to weaken our movement," Chandrashekhar Azad had tweeted in Hindi.A large number of police personnel had stayed put near the mosque, waiting for Azad to come outside as a large number of people gathered there. We do not support violence."Chandrashekhar Azad was detained by police outside the Jama Masjid early on Saturday. I wore a cap and a shawl and entered the masjid easily.Asked how he breached the tight security ring outside the Jama Masjid on Friday afternoon, he said, "My name is Chandrashekhar Azad."Those who are indulging in violence are not our people."We have to make sacrifices so that the legislation is taken back. They have not been destroyed or rebuilt for that reason

Perhaps he wants to place himself in a long imperial tradition of capital building Prithviraj Chauhan and Qila Rai Pithora, Qutubuddin Aibak and Gate operator wholesale Mehrauli, Allahuddin Khilji and Siri Fort, Mohammad bin Tuglaq and Tuglaqabad, Firoze Tuglaq and Firozabad, Sher Shah Suri’s Shergarh or Purana Qila and Shah Jahan’s Shahjehanabad. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy was a territorially unified India, not a larger-than-life statue. Hence the appropriation of Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy by developing the Sabarmati riverfront and the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel by memorialising him into the tallest statue in the world. It has also been said that the Central Vista running from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate was a reflection of a "colonial ethos", a legacy that needed to be reversed. Among the justifications given are congestion, lack of parking facilities, buildings having outlived their purpose, lack of earthquake proofing and developing the area as a "world class tourist destination".What will be the historical burden of Prime Minister Modi’s life? Inaction and inefficiency during the communal riots of 2002 in Gujarat; the divisive nature of his administration, the mob lynching of minorities, the intolerance of dissent, the shrinking of India’s heart to declare millions of poor immigrants and nationals with inadequate documentation as non-citizens, and incarcerating more than 80 million people of the Kashmir Valley for months.J. Therefore, not only colonial but also Mughal names will have to give way to "nationalist" nomenclature, and new monuments celebrating Modi’s India will have to be erected. Nations mark their space through carefully demarcating and guarding boundaries —like the Qin dynasty’s Great Wall of China and more recently the Donald Trump inspired wall on the US-Mexican border. Mahatma Gandhi’s lasting legacy is not a physical monument. They cannot conceive of the world continuing to exist after they are gone. However psychologists say that though animals struggle to keep their DNA alive, they do so instinctively.Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it seems, wants to ensure that he is remembered through systematic renaming and "re-monumentalisation" of the national capital. The plan to rebuild or redevelop the Central Vista in New Delhi as well as Parliament House is best understood in this context as an attempt to leave one man’s physical stamp on the world on a grand scale. New York, for example, was superimposed on an earlier indigenous settlement, and Cape Town was founded to support the slave trade. Abdul Kalam, an indigenous and "acceptable" nationalist Muslim. Their legacy was the way they lived for the public good. Nor will they forget Jawaharlal Nehru because the museum in his memory at Teen Murti House will now be made into a museum for all Indian Prime Ministers. He will also have to erect definitive landmarks that will recall for future generations the important historical events and achievements of the Modi period. The various rationalisations given by the government to redevelop or rebuild the Heritage Zone of Lutyens’ Delhi are unconvincing. Though he built large hydro-electric dams, public sector companies that produced steel and developed space technology, public universities and world-class research institutions, for India’s first Prime Minister they were not "signs" to mark that he had once lived.

The writer is a journalist based in New Delhi. They have not been destroyed or rebuilt for that reason. They do not have enough neurons to really think about the future. The architects of the buildings and roads on the Central Vista, Lutyens and Baker, consciously modelled the British Indian capital drawing on Indian prototypes of imperial grandeur. Through it his rule will be fixed in the historical memory of future generations. It is for this reason too that in the national capital New Delhi, the National War Memorial must be built opposite the colonial monument at India Gate commemorating the Indian soldiers who died for the British empire in the First World War. They drew on the domes and railings of Sanchi, the chattris and roofs of Rajput palaces and Mughal sandstone monuments. Many of them want to be remembered by future generations through their legacies -- physical artefacts, splendid buildings and gardens. It was the principle of non-violence and his stewardship of a multi-ethnic and multi-religious movement against colonial rule. Humans also mark territory by building boundary walls, naming roads, or even by just leaving a bag or handkerchief on a seat in an auditorium or a café. These may well outweigh in historical memory the rebuilding of Delhi. Human beings, on the other hand, are acutely conscious of their mortality. Surely, the "dream project" of rebuilding or redeveloping Lutyens’ Delhi follows from the same logic. He will need to therefore redevelop old symbols into new landmarks that will be personally associated with him.Animals mark their territory with scents — spraying urine, scattering faecal pellets, rubbing secreting glands. These leaders will be remembered for how they lived their life and their public actions which made the subjects of the Raj citizens of a free nation. However, what is the guarantee that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historical legacy will be fixed through the landmarks he has created? People will not forget Mahatma Gandhi if the Sabarmati Ashram and the area around the Sabaramati river was rebranded or Birla House was obliterated. It is not sufficient to rename Mughal Sarai railway station as Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction or Aurangzeb Road after the Bhagwad Gita-reciting and veena-playing former President of India A. New historical memories will evolve around new monuments and landmarks. Reshaping public spaces to reflect the ideology of his government, and the Prime Minister’s vision of himself and of India.P. If they are a sign of India’s subjugation, then so are many Western cities which are monuments to colonialism or built with capital extracted from the colonies. The colonial ethos argument holds little water. One of his ministers has claimed in an interview that the idea of rebuilding Delhi is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project. He is not only rethinking the relationship of India (especially the capital, New Delhi) with its past but also of shaping its future

Today several things have changed in terms of presentation

These are dance-dramas and several characters play part, using dialogues which they speak in Brajbuli, a mixture of Mythili and Brajbhasha. Gitor Nach, Nadu Bhangi, Chali Nach, Behar Nach and so on.It was a vast campus and there were four rows of houses where monks stayed. Armed with a camera and a tape recorder after a long journey I reached after four days to Kamalabari Sattra. P.During my stay I collected lot of information watching dance. Raghavan, Kapila Vatsyayan, Shambhu Maharaj, Lacchu Maharaj, Birju Maharaj and many more, saw for the first time dances of celibate monks from Majuli Island on banks of Brahmaputra river. Now we have Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Manipuri, Kathakali, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Mohini Attam and Sattriya eight classical dance forms, which no other country can boast of.In its solo form Sattriya is performed like other classical dance forms. Dr Mulk Raj Anand suggested that I go to Majuli Island and do research work and prepare a special issue and book on Sattriya dances. By 1958, with participation in Dance Seminar, it was accepted as a classical dance form of Assam. In Assam for past 600 years in more than 500 sattras, monasteries the monks perform dance as a ritual worship before the holy book Srimad Bhagavata placed on a throne, in a large hall known as Namghar. At the heart of sattra is the namaghar where music, dance and dance-drama performances take place.

Today several things have changed in terms of presentation, colourful costumes and sophisticated movements, retaining the traditional core values, and practically every young girl in Assam performs Sattriya dances.Based as I was in Mumbai, I was advised to go to Guwahati, meet Dr Maheswar Neog and with his letter of introduction go to Kamalabari Sattra.Barring Govind Vidyarthi from Sangeet Natak Akademi, no one else from outside of Assam had ever visited Kamalabari Sattra. The well known Dashavatara, ten incarnations, based on Gita Govinda of Jayadev. I was ushered into the world of celibate dancing monks and watch the rituals, worship and dancing. Finally with Bhupen Hazarika’s Door Openers Factory initiative and a conference to determine Sattriya as classical dance, it was given recognition as 8th classical dance form other three Mohini Attam, Odissi and Kuchipudi were given status as classical dances before Sattriya dances. More than 27 dancers moved playing khols creating various patterns. By 1950s with revival of several dance forms, Sattriya, through writings of Dr Neog drew attention of scholars and Government officers. And Bhaona. But the final recognition came only in 2000 during Bhupen Hazarika’s chairmanship of SNA. I was asked to offer my salutations facing him, sitting on the ground. I had seen Manipuri dancers playing on pung and taking aerial rounds, leaping in the air. He started a religious movement for universal brotherhood through congregational prayer in which the primacy of bhakti, devotion is considered more desirable than mukti, liberation. Indira PP Bora, Sharodi Saikia and his own daughters were his first students. The corpus of Sattriya dances also contained what is known as Ankiya Nat. He moved to Koch territory and gained unassailable mass following throughout Assam. French artists have visited Kamalabari Sattra and have studied Ankiya Nat and have got Parijata Haran, translated in to French and have performed it at Shankaranand Kalakshetra at Guwahti. He blessed me.Dr sunil Kothari is a well known critic and author

This cruel dog prison has falsified evidence before the Supreme Court

"This cruel dog prison has falsified evidence before the Supreme Court, and PETA India is calling for it to be shut down immediately. PETA Indias report points out that the state government filed these fabricated photos with a view to mislead the court regarding the actual condition of the DBU.These all indicating that the images were poorly altered.Despite being a government centre, the DBU breeds dogs to sell to the public.PETA Indias investigator visited the DBU from 12 to 14 March 2018 and documented that none of the adult dogs or puppies were allowed to play, exercise, or socialise at any point in the areas of the facility designated for this purpose. The dog socialisation ground was in a state of utter neglect, and photographs show that the grounds entrance gate and the plant containers located on either side of the entry gate were littered with empty liquor bottles and lids, plastic disposable glasses, snack packets, and accumulated dry leaves, showing that the ground has probably been unused for several months except for unsavoury activities.Chennai: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday, May 21, presenting fresh evidence of cruelty to dogs who are imprisoned and denied exercise and socialisation at the Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Departments dog-breeding unit (DBU) at Saidapet, Chennai.PETA Indias investigation report also revealed that the state government provided the Supreme Court with fabricated photographs supposedly showing proper treatment of animals. The photos and video footage taken by PETA India proves that this is in contradiction to what the DBU has stated in its daily activity chart, which was filed through an affidavit in the Supreme Court and claims that dogs are taken for exercise and socialisation for two hours in the morning, from 7:15 am to 9:15 am, and two hours in the afternoon, from 3 pm to 5 pm.A basic scrutiny of the images of the facility provided by the state sliding door openers government shows inconsistences, such as missing objects – including part of the fence, a pole that supports the fence, and the middle portion of a leash on a dog being walked by a man – and a layer of green grass that was apparently mistakenly added onto a blue-coloured pole.Such constant confinement of dogs as has been documented at the DBU is an apparent violation of Rule 24 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rules, 2017, and Section 11(g) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.".This followed a petition challenging the 2015 order of the Madras High Court, which directed the closure of the DBU for not providing dogs with basic care and for not meeting the terms and condition set by Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), a statutory body that operates under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and registers breeders."The Dog Breeding Unit has shown yet again that it either cant or wont provide dogs with basic necessities like exercise and socialisation," says PETA India Senior Legal Associate Swati Sumbly. In 2017, the Tamil Nadu state government claimed before the Supreme Court that DBU employees personally exercise each dog in a 3,000-square-foot exercise paddock and submitted photographs that PETA India noticed were obviously photo-shopped
